Just an Intro

A few of my fave albums from my fave artists

After nearly a year of receiving requests to start a blog for my music recs, I finally decided to give blogging a try! I guess I may have been driving some of my friends/family crazy with all my ig stories relating to music lol. Even if no one ends up reading this blog, I figured it’ll still be nice to have an archive of my opinions on music from the past.
Just a reminder, I don’t have a background in writing or the arts. That’s one of the big reasons I put off starting a blog. With k-pop, there are a lot of people who do reaction videos on youtube. Most of the reactors have some sort of background in music, dance, cinematography, etc. I have none of that, so I often felt like my thoughts didn’t deserve a platform like a blog. But for now, I decided to view this almost like a diary of sorts and I’m trying not to put too much pressure on myself during this experience.
Please note that I’m simply here to recommend music (including videos and performances relating to said music), share why I like it, and why I think it’s worth watching/listening to. My posts will be relatively casual and will not be full blown critiques or analyses. I’m going to try my best to keep things positive here as well. I will offer some criticism on ways I think songs could be better, but not much more than that. No outright bashing of other songs/groups here. Though if you ever want my opinion on a certain song/group, you can always ask me in the comments, and I’ll be honest with you.
I’ve mostly been listening to k-pop the past 6.5 years (how has it been that long?!), but still have a few fave western rock/post-hardcore/metalcore bands that I like to talk about. I tend to focus on more underrated artists, but will still cover popular artists whenever I feel like it. I also tend to go to a number of concerts throughout the year, so I’ll probably also do concert reviews when I start going to shows again.
Thank you if you’ve made it this far in the post lol. My first set of posts will be my top 80 korean songs of 2022. I have divided them into 4 lists: top 20 k-pop group title tracks, top 20 k-pop group b-sides, top 20 korean bands/soloists singles, and top 20 korean bands/soloists b-sides. I decided not to rank the songs and will just generally order them from good-best. Honestly, I’m way too indecisive to rank that many songs.
It'll probably take me a little over 2 weeks to get through all of them, so January will be busy! I wanted to get this intro out before the new year, so I can dive right into talking about music in 2023. And with that, I’ll be back here again in January! Hope everyone has a happy new year!

Top Japanese Songs by Korean Artists of 2023 (Part 1)

Korean artists often promote in Japan, release Japanese versions of their songs, and/or release original Japanese songs. Between Japan being the second largest music market behind the USA and being so close by, it makes sense for k-pop artists to participate in the Japanese music scene.       I have to admit that the majority of the Japanese releases from k-pop artists didn't really appeal to me in 2022, which is the main reason this post category didn't exist on my blog last year. However, 2023 had a number of good songs, so I wanted to highlight some of my favorites! This category will only have 2 parts, by the way.      Often times, the Japanese releases get overlooked or completely missed by the average fan, as it can be difficult to even find out about these albums if you don't closely follow the social media accounts of every artist. Also, these songs are usually performed and promoted only in Japan and nowhere else. K-pop artists sometimes release Korean versio

"tOgether fOrever" - Kep1er                       Live performance      I think this is one of Kep1er's best b-sides to date, so it's a bit of a shame that it's a Japanese release. To me, this song feels like a quintessential k-pop girl group song with a little of Kep1er's flair. The acoustic guitar in the verses is a nice touch that I really appreciate. The chorus is   pretty and uplifting, but with a tinge of melancholic nostalgia that adds some emotional weight. Then, a nice dance break takes the place of the bridge and adds energy to the song. The instrumental for the dance break is pretty cool and fits Kep1er's sound well.  Kep1er is still set to disband this upcoming July, but I'm sure this lovely song will remain in Kep1ians' hearts "forever and ever and ever." Currently On Loop (1st Week of October 2024)

I wasn't sure I would try to revive the blog again, but figured I should try a different format before giving up on it entirely 😅 I started finding the top 20 lists more stressful than fun because it was so difficult narrowing down and ranking my favorite songs. This format will just be me talking about my current favorite songs, and I probably won't go as in depth on each song. I'm not sure how often I'll be doing these posts, but figured I'd still add a date of sorts to the title for organizing purposes.                   ---------------------------------------- "Smoke" - Kingdom of Giants           I'm starting off with this song because I've never talked about metalcore on this blog before, despite it being one of my favorite subgenres for over a decade. I've talked a lot about how I love rock, but I do enjoy a bit of metal as well. I've known about this band for almost as long as I've been a fan of metalcore, since they&
